Who is Sue Crooks?
The Love Ladies Business Group® was founded in 2012 by Sue Crooks; businesswoman, mother, entrepreneur and champion of women in business.
The priority for the group is to build relationships in the first instance and do business and pass referrals second. This winning formula has led to organic expansion, and there are now 14 groups across the East and West Midlands, London and now Northern groups in Manchester and Leeds.
Invested franchise owners host ten of these #LoveBiz communities, all with the same belief and ethos of supporting and connecting women in business and all running their own businesses alongside.
Stronger relationships are built by feeling connected on more than just a business level. Friendships are forged, and members support each other in every aspect of work and life; celebrating the highs and encouraging each other through the lows.
The active Facebook and LinkedIn groups are a safe place for members to speak freely and ask for advice without fear of judgement.
Sue has always been decidedly ambitious. After a career which included hotel management, Operations Manager for a medical distribution company and an events, marketing and communications role in an IT company, she decided to set up her own design and branding business to escape male-dominated industries.
As a single mum with no financial support to bring up her young daughter, Sue knew this was a risky decision. Through sheer determination, courage and hard work she soon gained a reputation for excellence and her business flourished.
Although appearing confident, behind closed doors Sue was struggling to cope with postnatal depression and crippling anxiety. She felt uneasy leaving the house and suffered severe panic attacks, despite being on medication to help lessen the effects.
About six years ago she decided to stop taking the medication. She discovered hypnotherapy and hasn’t suffered a panic attack for over five years. Sue also found that surrounding herself with positive people was beneficial to her health and mindset. This is something she remains passionate about today.
At this time, Sue realised that other female sole traders who worked at home on their own were also feeling isolated. Like her, they had nobody to bounce ideas around with, ask for advice or share successes with.
Sue organised a lunch for local businesswomen who wanted to meet like-minded people. But this was to be no ordinary event. Sue had done a lot of networking and found the meetings had no buzz. They were lacklustre and full of people thrusting business cards at each other.
She wanted to create something different. Somewhere not just to make business connections, but a place for support too.
The lunch was a huge success. All 28 attendees wanted to meet up again and the Love Ladies Business Group® was born.
Alongside Love Ladies Business Group® Sue runs SJC Marketing where she offers an expert digital marketing, social media, branding and design service.
